Resources and Services

In the Student Office, all students may receive information about our procedures as well as transfers and the recognition of credits from other institutions. This office also provides any necessary information for the student who might need to interrupt their studies in case of illness, work, or for any other private or family reasons.

The Student Office is responsible for enrolling Italian and international students. Furthermore, the Conservatoire has an International Office which offers academic and logistical assistance to incoming and outgoing students. The International Office provides students with useful information about the various services and facilities offered by the Conservatoire and the city of Salerno. These services range from information on visas, residence permits, health insurance to musical and cultural events.

Italian Conservatoires do not operate a campus system as commonly found in English-speaking countries, but as a well-established university town Salerno offers plenty of housing possibilities for students.

Martucci Conservatoire has a longterm collaboration with the Erasmus Students Network ESN of Salerno whose members help exchange students to find accomodation in private flats.

Usually students find an accommodation to share with other Italian or foreign fellow students. The monthly rental fee for a bedroom is around 200 euros. The monthly rental fee for a sleeping accommodation is around 200 euros. In general, these prices do not include gas, telephone and electricity bills nor the individual share of general expenses for the building maintenance. In the majority of cases, landlords require a deposit of two months’ rent. This deposit will be given back at the expiration of the contract.

It is good to keep in mind that it is the student's responsibility to find an accommodation for the period of their studies.

We suggest you reserve a room in a hostel for the first days of your stay so as to have time to choose an accommodation according to your preferences.

Martucci Salerno Conservatoire has an agreement with “Ave Gratia Plena” Youth Hostel, located near the Conservatoire, in the old town.

In the immediate vicinity of the Martucci Conservatoire, cafeterias are open from early morning until late afternoon and offer typical Italian breakfast, sandwiches, hot meals at very affordable prices.

There are several restaurants within walking distance from the Conservatoire, in the old town, which offer a large choice of traditional local dishes at all price ranges.

Students can also do inexpensive shopping in groceries or supermarkets and cook at home.

Salerno offers a hight quality of life for a reasonable price. The cost of living in Campania region is less expensive than in Northern Italy, and one will be able to live very comfortably without spending too much.
Accommodation is the most expensive part; average rent for a room in a private flat in Salerno starts at 200 euros/month.

To help students planning their budget at our Conservatoire, here is a list of some goods and services:

All international students are entitled to the same student assistance services as Italian students, on the basis of the same requisites of financial means and/or merit. The tuition fees amount for bachelor and master courses are the followings (according to the student's financial situation):

min. 400 euros, max 700 euros per year (bachelor degree)
min. 600 euros, max 1.000 euros per year (master degree)

In order to benefit from a fee reduction, after the entrance examination students can present the papers related to their financial situation. Procedures and deadlines will be the same as the Italian students.

Public National Healthcare Service

With their European Health Insurance Card students from EU/EEA States can go directly to ASL doctors (Public National Healthcare Service).
Non-EU Students can apply for voluntary registration with the SSN (National Health Service).

The doctor on duty (guardia medica)

In Italy, the doctor on duty is a free health care service one can contact any time by phone in emergency cases. By calling this number, a doctor will give you advice and make an in-home examination if needed. After examination and first treatment, they can prescribe medicines, issue medical certificates and suggest an eventual need hospital admission.

Hospital

Salerno's general hospital is located in the city's suburbs, approximately 10 minutes from the city centre. Hospital admission occurs on written medical prescription from the ASL doctor. In case of accident or life-threatening situations you can call the emergency phone number 118 or go directly to the first aid section that provides first treatment in case of health emergency.

Pharmacies

Medications can only be purchased at pharmacies. Information regarding opening hours, night and weekend service can be found here and on information boards at each pharmacy.
Pharmacies in Italy are denoted by a green cross on a white background.

Students from EU/EEA countries have access to health insurance with the European Health Insurance Card.

Please ask at your national health insurance how to obtain this card. In most cases your national health insurance card corresponds to your European Health Insurance Card.
This card entitles the holder to any medical assistance that might become necessary during a temporary stay (but cannot be used for private sector health care providers). The treatment cost will be the same of any Italian citizen.

Non-EU students can apply for voluntary registration with the SSN (National Health Service) and obtain an European Health Insurance Card that has the same duration as the residence permit.
To register with the Italian National Health Service, non-EU students must apply to the ASL office, via Vernieri 1, first floor, from monday to friday 8:30-12:30 – phone +39 (0) 89 694255, presenting a personal identity document, residence permit and self-certification of residence. The registration cost for the current year is € 149,77.

Tutoring

Every degree programme has a President and a Council Board, composed of professors; each one represents the subject area taught within the related Programme. Professors and advisors of the Student Office assist students in planning their own Plan of study and help them to resolve any issues they may have with a given discipline. In order to ensure this process, advisors are available to meet at given hours during the week.

The International Office manage mobility of students, teaching and administrative staff, as well as the internationalisation area in general.

AlmaLaurea

Martucci Conservatoire joined the AlmaLaurea consortium in 2013.
All our students are invited, before their graduation, to submit their curricula to the AlmaLaurea databank. Curricula are published in Italian and in English. This is aimed at giving more opportunities to the Italian graduates to find a job abroad, since in this way they can get in touch with many foreign companies that use the services provided by AlmaLaurea to find qualified personnel among Italian graduates.

A service for curricula updating and implementation is available. Graduates can access their on-line curricula whenever they want to implement, update or modify them with new information, such as work experiences, postgraduate courses, master's degree courses etc.
A specific on-line service has the function to answer to job advertisements posted by companies on www.almalaurea.it by sending them the on-line curriculum immediately.

The study opportunities that are available after the Bachelor’s degree both in Italy and abroad can be consulted on-line within the master section of the web site. These study opportunities include: second level degree courses, postgraduate courses, specialisation schools, professional master's degree courses, PhD degree courses.

The State Conservatoire of music of Salerno takes part in the Erasmus Programme since 2008.

Our Conservatoire has its own “Procedure for Erasmus mobility and International activities and relations” which ensures the correct application of procedures and practices that respect the principles of the ECHE (Erasmus Charter for Higher Education) and the rights of the participants involved in the mobility; furthermore, it clearly specifies roles and responsibilities, and guarantees full transparency and an effective communication.

Since 2012 our institution has adopted procedures and regulations which guarantee the full recognition of all the credits gained abroad, traineeship periods included, as integral part of the academic curriculum of the students. In 2012 we also improved our Diploma Supplements: as a result, our institution has been awarded with the European DS Label.

Nowadays the conservatoire has more that 60 inter-institutional agreements with Higher Education Institutions in Europe and the United States

VISA AND RESIDENCE PERMIT

EU students

Students who come from EU member States (European Union), EEA States (European Economic Area) and Switzerland are required to carry proof of a valid passport (or valid ID card) when entering Italy. A stay that lasts less than three months does not require any formalities.
EU students staying in Italy for a period exceeding three months must register with the Registry Office/Vital Statistics Office (Ufficio Anagrafe) at the city hall where they intend to reside. They must register within three months of their arrival in Italy and obtain a residence certificate (certificato di residenza).

EU member States: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Hungary.
EEA States (non UE members): Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland.

Non-EU students

Students who are not citizens of EU/EEA or of any countries with which Italy has not a Visa Waiver Programme agreement, need to obtain a visa from an Italian embassy or consulate before entering Italy.

Non-EU students staying in Italy for a period exceeding three months must apply for a residence permit at any authorised post office within eight working days upon arrival.

TAX CODE (CODICE FISCALE)

The tax code is a personal code which consists of letters and numbers, that uniquely identifies the subjects within the Italian State, in particular regarding tax and administrative matters.
It is necessary to have a tax code card in order to access the services of public entities (e.g.: to enroll at the National Health Service), to enter into a contract (e.g.: employment or rent), to open a bank account, but also to buy a phone card.
In order to obtain the tax code, it is necessary to go to the local Italian Tax authority and make sure to carry a valid identity document, a passport or a residence permit

Italian courses for incoming Erasmus students

Salerno State Conservatoire offers to the Erasmus incoming students (both Study and Traineeship) a specific course of Italian for musicians. The course is free of charge for the Erasmus incoming students.
All the incoming students are invited to take part in the course; furthermore, they can include the course in their Learning Agreement, in order to get 6 ECTS after the completion of the course and of the final examination.

English courses for outgoing Erasmus students

Salerno State Conservatoire provides preparation English courses for prospective outgoing students. These courses are orientated in order to provide students not only with basic communication skills, but also with the knowledge of technical English in the field of music and musicology.

Martucci Conservatoire has a long-term collaboration with the Erasmus Students Network ESN of Salerno whose members help exchange students to find accommodation and to integrate into the local society. Erasmus Student Network is the biggest student association in Europe. ESN works for the creation of a more mobile and flexible education environment by supporting and developing the student exchange from different levels, and providing an intercultural experience also to those students who cannot access a period abroad (i.e. ‘Internationalisation at home’). The aim of ESN is placed on current exchange students, to whom ESN offers support in the academic, social and practical integration process. This is mainly done through activities like cultural and social events, trips to various places within the country, film nights, language projects, international food festivals and last, but not least, parties.
